Working as a contract Art Director with the Idaho STEM Action Center, I have the opportunity to design materials that appeal to kids, parents, teachers, and law makers, and promote the importance of STEM fields to the future of Idaho. I have created logos, illustrations, collateral, program booklets, ads, white papers, handouts, website designs, headers, banners, and email campaign templates. For more examples, visit:
I have been Art Director and designer for SVPN Magazine for several years. Working with a creative team of writers, editors, artists, and photographers, I create timeless covers and design compelling features and articles. More than anything else, I love the fact that I help produce a magazine that I can hold in my hands, smell the ink, hear the pages slide through my fingers, and to roll it up into my back pocket—something you just can't do with a website.
I was hired to help develop a new magazine in Orange County California from the ground up. As Art Director, I designed an upscale, monthly lifestyle consumer magazine, distributed free to 30,000 homes between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach.
Logo design
I was commissioned by the US Forest Service in Washington, D.C. to create website headers for all 50 states. State offices sent me images of the flora and fauna in their areas and I designed the header unique to their counties/states.
Scott USA was one of my first big clients. I was given a bunch of images by the company and was dared to create a sales catalog for their upcoming show. They loved the design and ordered extra copies from the press as they knew they would run out at shows.
Idaho Connects Online School is an Idaho free public online school committed to combining the power of education with the choices, 24/7 access, and personalized programs that Idaho students want and need.
My collaborative task was to supply the brand, messaging, website, and print materials to encourage enrollment.
Smoke Guard manufactures and installs the Smoke Guard System, an innovative code-compliant gasket for fire-rated elevator doors. Like most big businesses, their product requires tech sheets. I designed the sheets with a blueprint-style drawing on the back to illustrate the functionality of their curtains.
Schöffel is a high-end outerwear company that focuses on technical gear. I created dealer catalogs, POP displays, consumer catalogs—you name it. Whatever they needed I created.
For the consumer catalogs, I used photos from a Sun Valley Heli Ski tour and shot the product myself in my studio. To keep the clothing shots fresh and animated, I used leggings stuffed with cotton fill and wire, and posed them to give them life. For the dealer catalogs, I commissioned a local artist to paint scenes from the Sun Valley area using the colors from the Schöffel line.
This public service announcement campaign ran through 2013 and consisted of both print and radio spots. I did all the illustration, art direction, production, and client management.
The Idaho Small Business Development Center is a statewide, university-based organization that helps small business owners and entrepreneurs grow their companies.
I designed banners, logos, a brochure, and pocket booklet to be handed out to visitors at business conventions.
I worked with Wada Farms Marketing Group and Fusionware, a software company used to track, pack, store, and take to market Idaho potatoes and other produce. I created advertising collateral and designs for marketing, and I also had the chance to create a full trade show design/layout, illustrate and work with photographers to come up with the best images to tell the story.
All packaging has a purpose. It is hindered by stipulations, measurements, shipping, aesthetics, and the clients of the client. I always want to design a compelling piece that meets all of that criteria AND stands out from the rest.
I photograph both models and product in my studio before creating the design. Most of the flat artworks you see are press-ready files to demonstrate that I can design and prepare my work for press.
